Down Town Vicenza 10/1/11

Today Taylor and I ventured down town to see the sights. We left around noon and didn't get home till 9:00 so we were quite tired. We caught the bus down town and found a little hidden Pizzeria to eat lunch at. I brought my trusty little yellow Italian phrase book that Gram and Bo gave us and tried really hard to order our food in Italian. I would say that we did pretty good. I even asked for salt and pepper! Most everyone can speak at least a little English, so after all of our efforts to speak the language the waitress would say (in English)..."would you like some coffee after your meal?" Oh well. We did not encounter any Americans the entire day we were out which was cool. We did see tourists, but they also spoke Italian. There were lots of shops and people walking around. Here are some pictures from our day.

One of the down town Pallazos. They were having
some kind of festival for EMTs and
police officers

Teatro Olimpico was built by Andrea Palladio. Palladio
was an architect in the 1500's and live here in Vicenza
for awhile. He has a lot of work here in Vicenza.

Some senza glutine (gluten-free) pasta we found at a
grocery store! This one is for you Aimee! :)

This is to give you an idea of what the local boys/
men wear here. Most men wear skinny jeans or tight
jean shorts. I'm not sure what the Mickey Mouse t-shirt
was all about? Now if I can just get Taylor to try some skinny jeans on... :)

What I have been waiting for!!! My first Italian gelato!
The flavor was called Kinder and it was vanilla with
chocolate chunks. This is me savoring the gelato!

The walk way to Monte Berico.

The view looking down from about half way up
Monte Berico.

And finally...a view from the top. This is looking
at the city from the south. The mountains you see in
the background are pre-Alps.
